Well, I never thought I'd be feeling down about only running 13 or so miles. Like Kim, I knew something was wrong when I started feeling the urge to lie down and just sit down for a while. I ran with the "Kelvinator" and he slowly started pulling away from me, and I was struggling just to keep him in sight. I wrote that off as just drug induced performance-enhancing drugs he keeps telling me about. He was chugging some vile stuff that tasted like baby aspirin mixed in milk, and bragged about how good he was feeling. I could not explain why my heart rate was staying so high, either. I have a heart rate monitor/watch, and I couldn't understand why even after walking my BPM was about 15bpm higher than normal, and it would not go down. The energy in my body slowly drained like water going out of a bath tub. When I hit the landing I plopped down on an ice chest, and started fading even more. I soon found myself in a "full-Phil-ing" horizontal position under the tent. Fortunately, Phil Purser's support team was there(Patti), and I was revived with ice cold towels and Gatorade.
I realized later how stupid I have been Thursday and Friday. I decided that I did not want to do yard work on Sunday, and Saturday would be out of the question.. Hmmm I know, lets do it on Friday morning. Thursday I took off and finished some work I have been doing on the front door, and strangely enough, this morning before I "suited up", I was about 5 lbs. less than I was on Wednesday... Sheesh. Anyway, no excuses. I am going to work harder on my XT and push hard to be over-hydrated(if that is possible) before the next run. I really need to have good confidence building long run, and I hope the Big-K will share some of his drugs....
See ya next week for our little ole 10 miler!

Chuck, I am so sorry I didn't check on you better. I noticed you were not your usual smiling self... I am glad you are ok... lesson for all of us... hydrate and pay attention to your body.
Have a great week. Ann
Hey Chuck:
I'm so sorry you had a tough day of it. Sure am glad the "med team" was around.
I understand the yard bizness. This is the first summer that I have done so little in my yard. I water it to keep the grass alive and get it cut, but that's it.
Take care of yourself.
Debra
Chuck,
Sorry you had a bad day. Glad you are okay. It is hard to believe anyone could complain about "only running 13 miles." The day I got my fracture I was upset at "only doing 15 miles." Crazy! Take care of yourself and get back on that horse next week!
Jana
Boy, do I feel guilty. I knew you looked wiped out going accross the causeway. I should have truly brought my red wagon out there to your rescue. You have been there for me during tough times and I should have picked up on the signs.Take care!! Suzanne
I'm sorry, Chuck. I hope you're feeling better. Take it easy the next couple of days. I agree with Ann, you certainly weren't yourself!
I am so sorry you had a bad day. You are not alone, I had a terribe day. Too busy thurs and friday but I had no choice, had lots to do and neglected my nutrition and hydration(should have known better. I kept going against my better judgement and I'm still wiped out this morning. I really lost my perspective and was down but my husband reminded me that we all have bad running days. You WILL prevail. Have a blessed week.
Shelley
Chuck, i am glad you are recovering from the run Saturday. You had us worried. You will bounce back my friend. Keep persevering! Hang in there, my friend.
Hey Chuck,
I'm so sorry you had it so rough. I had no idea until this morning when I read your blog. I'm thinking about you this week. I think we are each gradually learning what our bodies can and can't do the week before a long run, unfortunately you may serve as a lesson for all of us. Take care of yourself, and you'll be running circles around us before you know it.
Take care,
Pam G.
Hey Chuck!
Maybe Kelvin will share his "magic potion" with us??? :) Glad you're doing better. See ya Saturday!
Chuckster!! Now you make me feel like &*%$ for running off and leaving you. I didn't know you were feeling so bad or else I would have stayed with you and monitored you like I did Phil. You yell at me the next time you feel bad instead of telling me to go on.
I hope you are feeling better.
I hope you are feeling all the way better now! Take care of yourself!
Phil's support team was glad to be of service!
Patti
Glad you are ok. I guess now you have an excuse not to do yard work? lol. Take care, hydrate, and see you Saturday!
Some people will do anything to get out of running 20 miles. Just kidding! Sorry I wasn't there to help you. It was lots cooler in NY than here but I never ran outside as I had no place to run from the hotel.
The red wagon team will be out there for the 22. Maybe we should just book a flight and go to Portland like Suzanne did. She'll do anything to get ahead of us !!!
See ya,
Debra
Chuck,
I guess we will need to get EMS out there for the 22 miler. Between you and Phil, ya'll are keeping the medical types in the group busy. :-)
Glad you recovered well without having to get IV's = you really need to steal some of the Kelvinator's special "juice".
Clark
Glad you're okay. Please be careful out there in the Mississippi sun!
