Okay ladies, please no "guy" meausurement jokes, please....I know this sounds really stupid, but I feel like I am going much slower now that I have calibrated my Nike+ iPod device to be more accurate. If you have read my blogs, you know by now that I am really addicted to the thing, and it has been a great motivater for me to keep up with my training, giving me logs, times, pace, miles cummulative, etc... However, I calibrated it using the marks put down by the Leukemia team in training folks' marks. I am sure they were accuate, but now my iPod shows my pace about 1 second/mile slower, and the distance covered about 10-15 percent less than normal. I know it is probably accurate now, when I ran the 10 mile Saturday is was showing 11.8miles... Clearly off... It wasn't that big of a deal when we were running 2,4, or even 6 miles... But now, 15-20%more is just too much cheating... Anyway, I did not know that my PACE was slower as well...Duh...
Anway, I was seeing my pace increase, and now it is back to the speed I was at a couple of months ago... I know.. I was ACTUALLY even SLOWER then! It is just hard to accept...Thanks for letting me wine...... Hope you all have a great week. I really enjoy reading these blogs.

Hey Chuck:
I think my pace has certainly not increased lately, and maybe even a bit slower. At first I was wondering about stepping up to 4:1 but after being around Dana who does 2:2, and really finishes close to us I'm not sure that increasing works either. Sometimes I think I could walk faster than I run after I get worn down.
Maybe we're just going thru a phase. Isn't that what we tell our children??

Chuck,
Are you sure Team in Training's marks are accurate? My unexpert opinion: Before I get discouraged, I'd calibrate the thing by using a treadmill or running track. Also, you're getting in to the longer miles and it's getting hotter, your pace may be slower. Who cares? It's not speed that counts, it's endurance. I have found when I've run a 5K (the few that I've run), I'm so much slower than the runners who only do 5K's.
I'm amazed at you guys who get out there with all the technical stuff. Those things are so far over my head it makes me dizzy to think about it. Just as I figured out how to use my Ironman for intervals, my knee screws up on me. I just hope I can remember how to work it. I'm sure your doing great! Keep on blogging because I really enjoy reading them - especially since that's all I can do lately - except swim. ;o)
Lisa's right...it is the endurance that counts...because when you run the marathon the thing that counts is that you FINISH...consistency is the key.....and if you run a 15 min mile then just keep running it til you get to 26.2...and and you'll find that there is a whole lota folks behind you!

My brother (who's done NY about 3 times) told me to focus on endurance & not speed. I get discouraged a bit when my pace is slower than usual.
Chuck,
Jana's Garmin Forerunner showed 10.34 as the distance last Saturday. It also measures the complete loop at Strawberry Park (that other city in Madison County) as 0.95 miles and not 1.0 miles.
I could help you calibrate the Nike with the Garmin one afternoon next week, if you would like.
